District Judge James Mehaffy upheld an arbitration award in its entirety Monday which awards Beaumont firefighters a 9 percent raise every year for three years retroactively effective October 2005. In two years, the firefighters pay will rival that of those in New York and will be the top pay of cities of similar size in Texas. As a result of the ruling, the city says it may have to increase taxes or cut services.
