I wish I lived in Texas because I would love to assist with PAPDA. This group cannot stop at Pain Management Clinics. Plenty of legit doctors are prescribing the same medications. My son was feeling down at college. Doctors there prescribed zoloft, and xanax. Then a few months later he had a snowmobile accident and had some pain. My son was 22 years old. The doctor prescribed vicodin to a 22 year old!!! The dr. didn't suggest physical therappy or rest. Just gave him a prescription. My son has since gone to rehab and still struggles. He then got cellulitis and went of antibiotics which was ok. But then when he went back for a checkup the dr (knowing he was in rehab) gave him adderall and a sleeping bill prescription for his insomnia. Ihave been to Nar-anon for parents and it depresses me. I need to do more than talk to a group of people who are somewhat hopeless. They talk the talk but I don't believe they believe what they are saying.
It seems like so many people are afraid to let out their dirty little secret which is literally killing our children. It is difficult in the Detroit area. So many people worried about their jobs or lack of jobs I am not sure this is the right time to start this up but I would be willing to start up a chapter in Michigan.
Judging by the responses you got I see not too many people want to participate. If you by chance have not given up on this people write back. I would love the chance to start a PAPDA in my area. It would be great to take this nationally especially with the Michael Jackson OD and others.
Perhaps you have noticed that there has been an alarming number of young people in the South East Texas area dying from Prescription Drug Abuse. There have been a number of "so called" "Pain Management Clinics" pop up in and around the area. These so called "clinics" operate on a "cash only" basis and require no prior appointment, no prior medical records,...no nothing! For the cost of an $100 (cash only) so called "office visit" ...the patient can walk in, be seen by a PA for 2 minutes, and walk out with a prescription for 120 ea. Vicodin, 120, ea. Soma, and 120 ea. Xanax... total of 360 pills in ONE VISIT.
There have been multiple deaths reported from "overdose" reported. These are young, healthy, 20 year olds...DYING because of the ease of getting their hands on mass quanities of narcotic painkillers and muscle relaxers.
These so called "doctors" are found to be nothing more than "Legalized Drug Dealers."
