I was in Sour Lake last week and the remnants of the storm appears to be cleared and cleaned up. There were still some fences that were down and lots of trees and shrubbery at the street to be picked up, but friends said they had electricity and everything was running as smoothly as before in Sour Lake.
That is as close to Beaumont as I have been.
We still have not found out if the Wright family members from Port Arthur are doing okay. We have repeatedly called Jerry, Bobby, and could not get a phone number for Mary, but to date, no response.
Jerry, Mary, Bobby, Ruby, please call Larry or Joanna.
Christina, please call your Aunt Jo and Uncle Larry!!
My toll free number at work is 866-594-5439.
This time, once we find them, we are going to have a set method of contacting us when these storms move in.
My niece has seven children and I really "need" to know that they are okay.
If they would only call us, they have a place to stay if they need us.
If anyone knows these individuals, please contact them and tell them that we are worried about them.
First hurricaine ever, and we are holding up well, but i want to know when i can come home, i'm so fustrated that in Houston, we are getting no reports on whats going in in Beaumont.
So is is safe for me to come home yet? We are between Crow and Dowlen, off of Folsom Street. Are the lights back on in that area or does anyone know, and what is going on with the schools?
Any info would be helpful, I'm a newbie and i honestly, don't know how things work yet in situations like theses.
Hey Newbie,
Sad fact is that this does not work very well. Storms and all the preparedness we have will not prepare us for the inability to communicate what would seem to be simple issues; such as, is my home standing? Is my niece okay? Did they survive?
I went nuts during Rita and that was a storm that it seemed so few new about.
We are the fortunate ones who now have our home and everything in tact. The lack of electricity would make me feel panicky at times. I couldn't find out what was going on around me, because we didn't have electricity.
Finding out how my son who lives across town fared, was a major undertaking. (He had gone to Papa's house further north!~ (he's in trouble for not telling me!)~lol!~
We are old timers though.. when we get used to having hurricanes, ... something will be wrong with us!~lol!~
Are you with friends, hotels, or shelters?
Good Luck... I think the only thing that helps is patience, not something we have a lot of..
It seems that all the preparedness in this world is not enough and this was not a bad storm compared to other storms I have lived through since 1960 in Houston.
