The school system has changed drastically and not for the good in 20. It now has its' own Police Dept. so they can keep all the trouble out of the public eye and deal with troublemakers anyway they choose and taxpayors not ever know it. Lots of discipline type rules but not enforced for everyone all the time. Serious crime rate I believe has stayed about the same but car burglaries are up and you can't go to the Mall, Target or Wal-Mart without some stranger approach- ing you with a sad story wanting money. The economy is good here so they shouldn't be doing that but the police don't have the manpower to stop it People complain because there aren't more blacks on the force but it is hard to find young black men without a criminal conviction on their records so you have to take what you can find from other races or lower your standards. If you even raise the issue you are labellled a racist. I find there is plenty to do here but then I have diversified interests. Dowlen Rd. is now fully developed from 20 yrs. ago with shopping, restaurants, etc. but the traffic going down Dowlen all the way to the Mall is terrible and I don't know what they can do about it. Folsom and Delaware now go all the way to Major Dr. which helps some I guess but I think people forget to use them & just get on Dowlen automatically when they could cut through & travel Major at least part of the way to relieve congestion. The Beaumont Community Players have bought the old Phelan Theatre & are making a playhouse out of it for performing arts that should be special when its' finished if you like dramatic events. Ford Park Arena brings in a lot of people. We just saw Carrie Underwood there and are going to see the Gaithers in Oct. Crockett St. was a nice place to go with several restaurants and clubs but recently a lot of that shut down at least temporarily so we'll see. We now have several musuems including Energy, Babe Zaharias, Edison, Gulf Coast, Fire , and plans are being made for a Childrens' Musuem. The people here are great for the most part. We do seem to have a shortage of trained, workable , customer-pleasing people but we're working on it. Come on home and work with us.
I've been away from the area for about 20 years and I know that things have changed. And growth is change! Believe me I've grown from a size 6 to a...well, anyway...Some changes are good and some aren't. I just want to know what GOOD changes have taken place? What about the school system? How about the conditions of the neighborhoods? Have the crime rate increased or decreased? Economics? Social events? Entertainment? I am trying to decide if I should ignore the saying,"You can never go home, again." and move back HOME. Or is that a sound statement that has a voice of good advice! Can you inform me that I might be convinced that the GOLDEN TRIANGLE is the place to come home to.
