Okay, I'm not a school board candidate, but I do have something to say about your first issue...
Most kids have little interest in learning the "course material" not because it is "uncool" to learn but because it is usually BORING!
I've NEVER done well in classes that bored me to tears. Maybe some teachers should reevaluate the way their classes are run; make them more relevant to things that their students see as important or as "real life" issues, perhaps?
And on the respect issue...no one is going to respect anyone else, unless they feel that the respect is mutual. Plain and simple.
What is your solution to the classroom behavior of the overwhelming majority of BISD pupils who behave as follows: 1. Show little interest in learning course material; act as if it's not "cool" to be interested in learning 2. Show little respect for classmates, teachers, themselves and for the value of education. 3. Fail to exercise self discipline; one awy in which they demonstrate this by speaking out in class whenever the urge strikes them without being recognized by the teachers.
Will you confront the parents of these children under the assumption that the attitude and behavior of these children is a direct result of the parenting they receive?
