I listened to the debate live and the recorded version. Billy Job appears to have clear vision for Jefferson County. Vote JOB for JUDGE. It even sounds right.

I applaud both men. Mr. Job and Mr. Walker both have leadership qualities. As far as the winner, I believe most people think Mr. Job won. I think Job is more progressive in his ideals for the county. Let's all support Billy Job for Jefferson County Judge.

I believe the debate was good and I really think that both men running for Jefferson County Judge are good moral men.

As to who won the debate, I would have to go with Mr. Job.

I think that Mr. Job has more hands on experience running local city governments.  Mr. Job   is a quick on his feet responder, while Mr. Walker   is a more slow methodical responder.  Neither reason makes one candidate bad, but I lean towards a person who can think fast on their feet and respond with an intelligent workable answer.  Another reason I lean towards Mr. Job is because Mr. Walker has made it known several times that he did not want to be there to debate.  I think the only reason that Mr. Walker showed up is because he knew if he didn't, his chances of winning any elected position would be very slim.  If a man is going to fill the office of Jefferson County Judge, you must be willing to face the music, and not affraid to respond to the issues of Jefferson County.

Thank you Beaumont Enterprise for running the debate, and allowing us to express ourselves.

Billy Job won the debate.

It's not suprising that the Beaumont Enterprise endorses Ron Walker for County Judge.  It was too much to expect them to go against the grain and endorse a Republican for local office.

The Enterprise cites Ron Walkers ability to heal the county and end the bickering.  Whhaatt?

It's the democrats that have been bickering amongst themselves.  It has been Griffith vs. Domingue/Alfred.  Democrat vs. democrat...

They cite that Walker can give a fresh start for Ford Park.  How?  He has no plans for Ford Park.  He had an hour before the Press Club in a debate and never spoke of his plans for Ford Park, which is astounding considering it was supposedly what inspired him to run for County Judge in the first place.

He didn't even take a stand against the 18 % raise for the commissioners until the backlash looked like it might sink his campaign.

Walker has no plans for Ford Park, no vision for Jefferson County.

I think the people of Jefferson County deserve better.

Billy Job had obviously spent time studying the issues of the office and how they affect the county patrons.  He had several specific ideas on improvements to those problems.  Ron Walker sounded like a very tired, nice man who is out of touch with the common man.  He referred once to knowing most of the county employees, but spoke mainly of what goes on in the courthouse.  Most of any county's maintenance is never in the courthouse, it is out where people live and work.  If a 22 month campaign has been hard for him, how will he handle a 48 month term of office.   I was offended when Mr. Walker so casually said that the campaign was so hard on him that he would have rather served another tour of military duty. How sad that he took that young Hardin County's hero sacrifice so lightly. War is very unlike a political campaign. I hope he remembers more about the incident command that he touted from 50 years ago than what it feels like to put your life on the line.

Unfortunatelly, I can't vote for Mr. Job (who is clearly better prepared to make the necessary changes to the County Judge's office) because I am a SE Texan stuck in PA.  I follow the SE Texas news every day because home never leaves your heart.  I am familiar with the issues, the economy, and have personally supported the local efforts to recover from Rita.  Caring is great, but action is required and Billy Job is the better choice.

It will be nice to have Billy Job in as County Judge.

Jefferson County will finally have a breath of fresh air and the old courthouse boys will start leaving one by one.  It is a New Beginning or should I say A Happy Ending!  God Bless America, God Bless Jefferson County.

There is no reason to make this a "dirty" campaign. Both are fine men. Let's stay with ability and stay away from politics. Let's respect both men and stay away from any "mud slinging". Vote Billy Job.

I was undecided who to vote for - and then I received two very nasty messages from someone in the Job camp - my decision was made!!  Clearly Mr. Walker is the winner from my perspective. I do not need nor appreciate dirty politics.  I you can't win on the facts you deserve to lose.

I see that Doug Connor has mobilized the loyal troops to spam this board in support of Billy Job.  The recurring themes, echoing his talking points are a dead giveaway, as well as the comments from those who apparently didn't even see the debate.

Unfortunately, the portion of the debate dealing with county finances clearly shows that Job is as unsuited for balancing the county's checkbook as he is his own.

Billy Job won the debate and is the best candidate for County Judge.  His proven history of community leadership and emergency management clearly make him the most qualified.

Mr. Billy Job and Mr. Ronald Walker are both first class men. The only clear choice is Billy Job. Although, both men are experienced in politics, I believe there is one career politician and one outsider. Mr. Walker has 40 plus years of service as a politician. He has give alot to his community in the many years of service. I think it's time to give an outsider a chance.  Mr. Job has a proven record and has what it takes to lead Jefferson County. When he takes office, it will be the difference between night and day. We need someone who is not part of the Jefferscon County " Old Buddy System". Democrat for BILLY JOB ! When he is elected, Citizens will have a VOTE, Citizens will have a CHOICE and Citizens will WIN !!!.

The position of the Jefferson County Judge needs to be chosen on ability, not policitics. Billy Job is very familiar with and has formulated responses to Jefferson County's serious problems like the future economy, crime and budget shortfalls. Mr. Job understands what it means to be able to keep the product of one's labor. He understands the daily struggle of the working class families for he is one of them. He is qualified to face the tough challenges of Jefferson County demands.  Please vote Billy Job.

The debate provided an instructive insight into the candidates. Frankly, as a businessman who has hired hundreds of fine employees and provided training for senior managers, I never ask a person if they are a Democrat or Republican, Protostant or Catholic, athiest or believer, Gay or straight. etc. I've always tried to hire the guy who thinks outside the box and has the initiative to provide sound and solid solutions. The County is a business and someone with business experience is going to return the best investment and after the debate I am more convinced than ever that Mr. Job's background is better for managing the county finances and leading the commissioner's court than Mr. Walker whose perriennal interest and experience leans toward politics and the law. Both men deserve a pat on the back for making themselves available. My family and I must vote for Mr. Job.

I don't think this is a Democrat vs. Republican race. The way I see it, this race boils down to what you expect from County Government here in Jefferson County.

If you are happy with the way things are going, and think an insider is what is needed to get things done in county government, Mr. Walker is the candidate for you.

If you want to see a new direction for this county and think county government needs some fresh blood, Mr. Job is the candidate for you.

I am personally frustrated with the good ole' boys network. I believe ALL citizens should get equal, fair consideration.

Mr. Job gets my vote!

Billy Job is the winner ! I voted for Mr. Walker in the last election, but now feel Mr. Job is the most progressive candidate. Mr. Walker appears to be "old fashion" and out of touch with reality. Mr. Walker is a very kind gentleman and I like his grandfatherly demeanor. But, I think we need someone who is going to stand head-to-toe with the bull dog tactics of county politics. Vote Billy Job.

Let me start off by first stating that I have worked with Mr. Walker previously.  From my experience, he is a good and decent man, however I feel that the county needs a serious change in the direction.   I feel that Mr. Job will do a better job of setting a new direction for this county.  I wish Mr. Job could have rebutted Mr. Walkers rebuttal to the statement regarding the helicopter and expensive toys.  Mr. Walker touted the fact that the helicopter was purchased with federal funds and did not cost the county anything.  As a pilot and aircraft owner, purchasing an aircraft is not the expensive part, it's the operational and maintence costs that end up being the most expensive.  These costs are being paid for by the county.  Apparently Mr. Walker was not aware of that when he made the statement about the helicopter being free.  The same also applies the to new prop-jet that the sherriff's office now owns and flies.  This is only one example of a change in direction that I feel the county needs to undertake, and as Mr. Job alluded to, using privitization where it makes sense.  Flying commercially and renting helicopter services only when needed are much less expensive than owning and operating your own aircraft...of course it's a lot less fun and exotic.

Mr. Walker is for the people.  Mr. Job is for himself.  Job wants to bark out what the 'Job Administration'  WILL DO, not what the people want.  It was very clear that Walker was willing to listen and could be worked with and wants t listen to the people.  We've already had an administration the 'Griffin Administration' that barked out what he wanted and we do not need or deserve that any longer.  Walker is clearly the right man for the job.

Mr. Job won the debate hands down. Mr. Walker appears too out of touch with the problems facing our county. Yes, I agree he's been around the court house 40 + years and is very knowledgeable about the court house building itself, but he appears too out of touch with the running of commissioners court.  I think he would be more of the same (good ole boy). Again, Mr. Walker is very nice and would of made a great leader 20 years ago. Mr. Job appears much more professional. My Vote is for Mr. Billy Job.

When the question of divirsifing the economy was asked, Walker clearly demonstrated that the world has passed him by.  He didn't have a clue what it meant.  Job understands the need and what it will take to accomplish this.

Walker also demonstrated that he is one of the good ol' boys that have run this county for the last 40 years.  They have the distinction of making Jefferson county the only negative population growth county in the state of Texas.

It is time for a change.

Job is the man to lead the way.

That was not the type of debate where a winner should be declared. The major difference between the two candidates was very obvious. Walker gives alot of thought before answering a question. He does not give quick, knee-jerk responses that are designed to sound good. Mr. Job is much more impulsive. He gives very quick answers that sound good but are not practical. Walker has my vote.

JOB WINS DEBATE

__________________

More than Job winning the debate (which he did), Walker lost it. Walker's excrusiatingly slow speech resulted in his wasting most of his alloted time. He rambled in meaningless platitudes rather than providing meaningful answers to the questions. He fails to understand that in an information economy, what is needed is a higher quality of education, not vocational training; Job understands this. Walker came across as being out of touch with current needs; he seems a relic of the past. Being a very pleasant person, which he appears to be, is not enough. Ideas, a vision and the energy to implement a plan for improving county management is required; Job appeared better equipped to supply this, both by experience and through his expressed thoughts. Walker defeated Griffith I think largely based on his opposition to Ford Park; now he supports it, I assume due to political convenience. This shows him to lack conviction. Walker showed himself to be so lacking in savvy that when given the opportunity to ask Job a direct question, he merely praised Job's family. Was there no question that Walker thought might reveal something about Job that would be to Walker's advantage? Just as Walker often ran out of time in his painfully slow responses, Jefferson County is out of time to replace representatives of the past with people who understand current and future needs.

Prior to the debate, I knew little about the candidates and I was planning to vote for Walker, largely based on his Ford Park opposition during his contest with Griffith. Now, having seen the debate, I have changed my mind and will vote for Job.

Mr. Job, because he answered clearly and did not ramble. He seems more passionate about the position and I think being an ex-mayor he has the abilities to work with different people.

I'm not sure there's a clear winner.  Both seemed to have the interests of Jefferson County citizens at heart.  Both were concerned about pay for county employees, and both had similar ideas about Ford Park.  I would say that either would do a fine job running our county.

Mr. Walker.  His experience clearly outweighed Mr. Job's.  I find it hard to believe that a part time mayor could possibly have as much experience as a former judge.  They are, after all, running for County Judge.

I appreciated the fact that both men were courteous to each other.  Refreshing.

Mr. Job clearly won the debate.  His responses were clear and concise.  He showed that he has the leadership abilities it will take to lead Jefferson County out of the political wrangling it is experiencing.  I think he has the heart to represent all citizens.  Mr. Walker's responses were "canned" at best.  He was rambling most of the time and cut off by the clock before his thoughts were presented...

Thank you Beaumont Enterprise for making the archived debate available!

Although I did not see a 'slam dunk' winner, Mr. Job appeared to be more passionate in his answers and to truly want the job of County Judge.  Mr. Walker on multiple occasions reiterated the position Mr. Job took and never really gave any responses that would indicate a new approach to tackling old and new problems.  Given a choice between someone who want's the challenge of running he county and making changes to attempt to correct the fiscal mudslide and someone who didn't seem to have any 'new' ideas, I would go with the more eager of the candidates.  Mr. Job.

Mr. Job appeared distinguished and "mayoral". Mr. Job's responses answered the questions. Mr. Job is obviously passionate about his positions.

Mr. Walker's answers were wordy, but didn't "say" much. Mr. Walkers answers appeared "forced". Mr. Walker looked tired.

Mr. Job clearly won.
